Wi-Fi definitely seems the future of wireless Internet technology. Going by the number of users who are climbing onto the Wi-Fi way of accessing the Internet, the answer is definitely “Yes, the future seems going the Wi-Fi way.”

Wi-Fi has already crossed over a billion devices. Wi-Fi devices are being lapped up with glee by corporate and homes alike. All these trends suggest that Wi-Fi is being touted as a successful internet technology.

Wi-Fi is now even more potent with the introduction of 802.11. This is an Internet standard. 802.11 specify how devices communicate over a wireless local area network (WLAN). Coming in the range of 2.4 to 5 GHz frequency bands, it describes the protocols to be used in WLAN communications.

The next Internet standard that will bring phenomenal speed to Wi-Fi networks is the introduction of 802.11ac specification. It is set to be in draft stage by 2011. The new technology will work to provide faster and larger data transmissions through use of larger frequency bands starting from forty MHz to eighty MHz.

It’s almost like increasing the girth of the water pipe that supplies water to your facility. The more the girth, the more water will come in, and be pumped out. This new wireless networking Internet standard is in specifications stage, and will require a lot of years of development, followed by quality assurance testing.

But a point to be noted is that, although more Internet data will flow in and out, not much will be changed to increase Internet speeds. Internet speeds will depend on the up-gradations of fiber optic technologies and the likes. So it’s like saying that you have increased the width of your water pipe, but the speed of water transmission remains a little unchanged here and there.

Wi-Fi will always remain in the reckoning over the next years with more standards and specifications coming in. It will emerge as the hottest wireless internet technology in the next several decades.

Facebook-Bing Tie Up to Beat Google Search

The Facebook and Bing tie-up seems a threat to the Google search engine. Fuelled by the idea to make search more personable, this alliance will bring in new technologies that Google might not have. The two companies want search from being the traditional querying for pages to making it more of a personal experience.

Bing is hoping that this partnership will get it a larger share in the search engine market. To beat Google in its own den is tough. Google is now a word that is synonymous with searching information on the Internet. After being in the search engine space for so long, it’s really going to be a paradigm shift if Bing beats Google in the search engine market.

Bing has started off with adding a feature called “Liked by your friends”. Search results from the Bing search engine will have this new feature. This makes results more personable. You must be logged into your Facebook account to get this. But Bing has said that it will not share information with Facebook. If you are searching for something, Bing will not share your search information with Facebook. Also, the personable search feature is not imposed on you. You can either select this feature or deselect it, and the Bing search engine will not add this feature to your search results.

Another strong feature of the Bing-Facebook partnership is the Facebook Profile Search. Bing will scan a person’s network on Facebook. It then uses this network data to modify the search results of this user. What we can see here is a social distance kind of algorithm that bases the relevancy of search results based on the user’s relationships with others on his or her Facebook account.

The strong development on the Bing-Facebook front is something that Google needs to ponder about. All said and done; only time will tell if Bing does become the number one search engine. Until then it’s wait and watch.

After doing so it goes on to learn the facts from the data. It can also connect things together, based on the data it has. This again is a reasoning capability of NELL that humans have.

As time goes, the logical reasoning capabilities of NELL increase. It will store patterns of information and data, and convert it to knowledge. It will form reasoning and comprehension capabilities based on the enormous amount of data it has processed.

It uses programs that take out words and phrases from the web. It also has programs that look for textual patterns and its relative textual contexts and relations. For a given word phrase, NELL will look into its database to see the instances that this word phrase was used in the web. The word phrase might have been used a million times. Still, NELL might have recorded a thousand of those. It then analyzes the contexts that the word-phrase was used in, and will store that information as well. Using all these components, NELL will learn like human beings.
